LAFC’s Bradley takes inspiration from Dodgers, Lakers

LAFC head coach Bob Bradley is hoping that recent MLB and NBA titles for Los Angeles franchises the Dodgers and the Lakers can help inspire the Black and Gold to its first MLS Cup.

LAFC is the only Los Angeles team in the MLS playoffs, with the Galaxy crashing out on Nov. 5. Bradley believes that despite an inconsistent regular season and a tough first round match against reigning champion the Seattle Sounders FC, his team can find form in the postseason and become the latest LA team to win a jerseys nike cheap

“When all is said and done — we saw it in Los Angeles with the Lakers and the Dodgers — with everything that’s gone on in the country and in the world this year, some teams with leaders just still at the end have something special, something different,” said Bradley in a video conference after Sunday’s 1-1 tie against Portland Timbers. “There’s a mentality. There’s a concentration. There’s a determination. And I’m hoping we can find that.”

“I believe we are capable of winning MLS Cup, but again, you go a game at a time, and so we know that we start in Seattle [against the Sounders],” he continued. “[It’s] always a tough game. From the start we’ve had really good games with them, but we know that last year, they came here and knocked us out of the playoffs in the conference finals. So we’ve got to see if we can settle that score and go there and be at our best.”8

LAFC is boosted in the postseason by the return of Carlos Vela to full fitness. The Mexico forward played a full 90 minutes on Sunday for the first time in eight months. He scored his 52nd regular season goal since joining the club at the beginning of the 2018 season, matching Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s total over the Swede’s three seasons in MLS at LA Galaxy.

“When Carlos is there, when as many guys as possible are fit, sharp and in good form, we still believe that we have a team that can win MLS Cup and as we get to this time of the year, we think we are getting closer,” said nfl nike jersey

Uruguay forward Diego Rossi, 22, has developed into a key component for LAFC this season and won the league’s golden boot award with his 14 goals over the regular season, becoming the youngest recipient of the award.

“It is very nice to win it, it is a prize for the group because without them it would have obviously been impossible, because it is a team effort,” said Rossi in Spanish in a video conference. “When Carlos [Vela] was not there, we showed that the team was strong and has variation.”

For the trip to Seattle, LAFC may be without Uruguayan duo Rossi and Brian Rodriguez and Ecuadorians Jose Cifuentes and Diego Palacios, who will be traveling with their international squads in the current window and will have to quarantine on return to the United States.

Bradley lamented the potential absentees, but acknowledged that the COVID-19 situation has made for a complicated year for MLS logistically.

“We are going to take the group that’s here,” said Bradley. “We know we play Seattle. We are going to work like crazy for two weeks and go to Seattle and give our best effort to move on.”

USMNT’s Steffen: I’m growing at Manchester City despite limited play

United States men’s national team goalkeeper Zack Steffen feels he’s already grown on the field with club side Manchester City, even though he’s only been with the first team for a little over two months.

Steffen, 25, signed with Man City back in July of 2019, but spent the 2019-20 season on loan with German side Fortuna Dusseldorf. Steffen was brought in this season primarily to back up Ederson, but he has backstopped the club to two wins in the EFL Cup.

“Their goalie coach is really detailed, and is very eager to make me a better goalkeeper,” Steffen told reporters ahead of Thursday’s friendly against Wales. “And then just working with those guys day in and day out, the training, the level of intensity and skill and talent and everything that goes into it, I feel myself growing.”

In terms of what areas have been sharpened, Steffen pointed to the technical side of his game.china nike nfl jerseys cheap

“It’s just so much more detailed than anything I’ve ever really been a part of, whether that’s hand positioning when you’re just catching the ball, or it’s a set position on a certain shot, or one-v-one.7

“There’s so many little aspects that I obviously knew of and I know the techniques, but I feel like I never really got the reasons why you do that. And so, I feel like I’m learning some new techniques obviously but [also] some reasons of why these techniques are gonna help me in the long run.”

Steffen’s brief spell with City has now allowed him to see manager Pep Guardiola up close. He said while he’s still in the process of getting to know the manager and staff, he’s been impressed with what he’s seen so nfl nike jersey

“I feel like [Guardiola] has a good balance of being focused in intense,” Steffen said. “But with that he brings humor, and he brings just his genuineness, and just kindness. So it’s been cool to see how he works, how his coaching staff works.”

Steffen added that he’s also noticed an increase in how players are treated now that he’s in the Premier League.

“The player care is just more prominent,” he said. “They want us to be fully focused on football, and they really help us out and worry about everything else whether that’s cars, whether it’s banking, whether it’s housing, family stuff. Anything at all, they’re one call away, one text away, and they really make us feel comfortable.”

But for the next week, Steffen’s job will be to integrate himself with a U.S. side that hasn’t played a match since February, with many first choice players rejoining the U.S. team for the first time in over year. Steffen’s last appearance for the U.S. came on Oct. 15, 2019 in a 2-0 loss to Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League.

“The vibe so far has been really good,” he said. “Everybody’s excited to be here and everybody’s excited to see each other, meet one another. Training has been short and sharp and quick. It’s obviously tough when there’s so many new guys and we don’t have so many training days. But now we’re excited for the game, we’re excited to get on the field each day and learn from one another and see what everybody’s really made of.”

Colorado knocks Seattle out of first in West

Keegan Rosenberry scored the go-ahead goal late in the first half as the Colorado Rapids defeated the visiting Seattle Sounders FC 3-1 Sunday night.

Andre Shinyashiki and Cole Bassett also scored for the Rapids (6-6-4, 1.38 points per game), who moved into seventh place in the Western Conference based on points per game.

Jordan Morris scored the lone goal for the Sounders (10-5-5, 1.75 ppg), who dropped out of first place in the West behind idle Sporting Kansas City.

MLS announced last week that qualification for the playoffs would be determined by points per match, as Colorado had five games postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shinyashiki opened the scoring in the 11th minute, taking a cross from Sam Vines and putting a header from 10 yards out just inside the right post. Nicolas Benezet also was credited with an assist.

Morris tied it in the 22nd minute, redirecting a cross from Cristian Roldan into the net from close cheap nfl jerseys8

Rosenberry made it 2-1 in the 42nd minute. A Colorado corner kick was headed away by Sounders defender Yeimar Gomez Andrade, but the ball fell to Rosenberry, who was about 23 yards out in the middle of the field. His low volley made it through a maze of players and just inside the left post.

The defending MLS Cup champion Sounders nearly tied it in first-half stoppage time, but Colorado goalkeeper William Yarbrough made a left-footed kick save at the near post on a 5-yard shot by Raul nike jerseys for cheap

Bassett extended the Rapids’ lead to 3-1 in the 75th minute, scoring on a header from 7 yards out off a free kick from Jack Price.

Yarbrough made two saves for Colorado, and Sounders goalie Stefan Frei stopped seven shots. Colorado outshot Seattle 16-9, including 10-3 in attempts on target.

CONCACAF Champions League set to play out in U.S. in December bubble

The conclusion of the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League will be played out in a centralized location in the United States between Dec. 15-22, after the competition was suspended midway through the quarterfinal stage in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The games will be played behind closed doors and will be one-leg knockouts rather than the usual two legs, CONCACAF said on Monday.

However, the quarterfinal first legs that had already been played will count and those second legs will be played as part of the December cheap jerseys nike

“The football community across the region, and the fans of the remaining eight teams in particular, can look forward to an exciting centralized finale of the competition in December and the crowning of a regional club champion,” CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani said in a statement.7

There will be high-frequency COVID-19 testing in the bubble-like environment for the tournament, with no fans allowed into the games.

The second legs of the quarterfinals already started — Olimpia vs. Montreal Impact, Atlanta United vs. Club America, Tigres vs. NYCFC — will take place over Dec. 15 and 16, although the times and locations are yet to be announced. Honduran side Olimpia take a 2-1 lead from the first leg against Thierry Henry’s Montreal, while Tigres are 1-0 up versus NYCFC and America thrashed Atlanta 3-0 in its first cheap nfl jerseys

The LAFC against Cruz Azul game will be a one-game shoot-out, as will the semifinals and final. The winner of America against Atlanta will face LAFC or Cruz Azul in the semifinal with Tigres/NYCFC to play Olimpia or Montreal. Both games will be on Dec. 19.

There will be no extra-time at the quarterfinal or semifinal stage, with games instead going straight to penalties, although there will be extra-time for the Dec. 22 final, should the teams be level after 90 minutes.

Monterrey is the current CONCACAF Champions League holder, with Mexican teams having won the last 14 editions of the region’s club tournament.

Philadelphia Union edge New England Revolution to keep pressure on Toronto FC

Anthony Fontana scored in the second half to help the Philadelphia Union earn a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution on Monday in Foxborough, Mass.

The Union, who also received an own goal, extended their unbeaten streak to four games. Philadelphia solidified its second-place standing in the Eastern Conference and climbed within three points of league-leading Toronto FC.

The Union won despite being without captain Alejandro Bedoya because of yellow-card accumulation.

Tajon Buchanan scored for the fifth-place Revolution, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

New England, which fell to 0-3-1 against the Union this season, including a loss in the Round of 16 at the MLS Is Back Tournament, had been 4-1-2 overall heading into play Monday.

In the 17th minute, New England’s Teal Bunbury gathered a loose ball about 10 yards out, but his shot deflected off Philadelphia defender Kai Wagner and out of nike nfl jerseys wholesale

In the 65th minute, Union goalkeeper Andre Blake made a stellar save on a header in the box by Bunbury.

Philadelphia had a strong scoring chance in the 68th minute when Raymon Gaddis fired a shot that deflected off Revs defender Henry Kessler and out for a corner kick. Gaddis, a right back, has never scored in nine MLS seasons.

One minute later, Fontana chipped a shot over Turner for a 2-0 advantage.

Buchanan drilled a shot past Blake in the 81st minute to close the gap to 2-1.

New England nearly equalized a couple of times in five minutes of second-half stoppage time but couldn’t convert.

Inter Miami’s Higuain on MLS: I’m in love with football again

Inter Miami CF forward Gonzalo Higuain has said moving to the Major League Soccer side has helped him rediscover his love for the game.

The 32-year-old joined Inter Miami at the end of last season on a free transfer and has not had the best of starts to life in the U.S. as he missed a penalty on his debut in a 3-0 defeat against Philadelphia Union before clashing with his opponents. On Sunday, he was red carded after the final whistle in a 2-1 loss at Montreal Impact.

“I’ve always been curious about this league [MLS], after watching it closely because of my brother and other big players,” Higuain told CBS. “But I wanted to come here with the intention of being happy to play again and I think Inter Miami gave me everything I needed.

“Coming here to this league, gives me that feeling again, back when I was a kid enjoying playing, where in Europe I think that left me for many different nfl nike jerseys china

“I think from a media perspective, Europe was just too much. I had to basically prove to them every day, game by game, what I have done all my career, and patience was cutting short. So they don’t give you time to truly enjoy playing.”7

Another reason Higuain is enjoying his time at Inter Miami is that he was recently joined by his old brother Federico, who signed from DC United.

“There are many things I have never known about him due to being so far away from each other,” Higuain said. “So we basically lost 15 years together and now we’re trying to get all that time back.”

Despite Higuain’s incredible goal record at his previous clubs, he has often been criticised for a perceived failure to produce on the biggest nfl jerseys china nike

He won three La Liga titles with Madrid as well as a Coppa Italia with Napoli and broke the Serie A goal scoring record of 36 in a single season — a feat which Lazio’s Ciro Immobile equalled last season.

In 2016, he became Juve’s record signing helped them to three Serie A titles, while he also won the Europa League with Chelsea in 2019.

He was widely blamed for close-range misses in Argentina’s two Copa America final defeats in 2015 and 2016 as well as in the World Cup final in 2014. At Juventus, he was singled out after the 2017 Champions League final loss, while at Napoli, he missed a late penalty on the final day of the season which saw them miss out on a place in the top four.

West Brom hold Burnley to battling 0-0 draw

Promoted West Bromwich Albion and Burnley fought out a 0-0 draw in the Premier League on Monday after both sides missed chances to register a first win of the season in a pulsating clash.

The result left West Brom 17th in the standings on two points from five games, while 18th-placed Burnley have one from four after a dominant second-half performance.

West Brom coach Slaven Bilic was disappointed with the outcome, although he praised his side and conceded a share of the spoils was a fair result.

“I told them after the game we were looking for three points, but they should build on this,” the Croatian told Sky Sports.

“We created a few chances, more than enough to score. They also had a couple to be fair. A draw was probably a fair result.

“We knew these are the games — I respect Burnley a lot — where you really need to win, or at least not lose. If we want to stay up then we have to win these types of games.”cheap nfl jersey wholesale

Striker Karlan Grant took centre stage for West Brom in the first half as he shot over the bar in the 18th minute before he had a goal disallowed for offside in the 37th, after home keeper Sam Johnstone had kept out an Ashley Barnes effort.8

West Brom came close again in the 58th minute when visiting keeper Nick Pope parried a Grady Diangana shot and Branislav Ivanovic had the rebound blocked by a defender.

Chris Wood then twice hit the crossbar for Burnley, having failed to convert an Ashley Westwood cross before he missed with the goal at his mercy after Johnstone parried a Barnes header into his path.

West Brom missed the game’s final chance as Pope produced an acrobatic save to keep out a Matheus Pereira volley from close range in the 78th minute. The outcome was the Premier League’s first goalless draw of the season.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche also rued his side being unable to come away with a jerseys discount

“With the quality of chances we had, we could have got three points,” he said.

“It was a strange game, Barnes has one (chance), then there was a moment we deserved a penalty. I think the quality of chances were good, but we didn’t take them.”

Deflected Jimenez strike gives Wolves narrow 1-0 win over Leeds

A Raul Jimenez shot that took a heavy deflection off the head of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips gave Wolverhampton Wanderers a hard-fought 1-0 away win in the Premier League on Monday.

Leeds dominated possession in the opening half, firing crosses into the box at a variety of angles and threatening from set pieces without creating much in the way of clear-cut chances.

For all their attacking endeavour, they were almost made to pay in first-half stoppage time when Wolves sliced them open on the counter-attack, but Daniel Podence fired a powerful shot straight at goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who batted it away.

Wolves improved greatly in the second half and Romain Saiss thought he had given his side the lead with a wonderful flick and volley in the 53rd minute. However, the goal was ruled out by the video assistant referee when Podence was deemed to be offside in the nfl jersey wholesale7

Wolves finally broke the deadlock when Jimenez drifted in from the right and cut back to shoot. Phillips reacted quickest and attempted to head clear, but only succeeded in wrong-footing Meslier as the ball flew into the net.

Pedro Hernandez had a good chance deflected over for a corner as Leeds pressed forward looking for an equaliser. However, the Wolves defence held firm to hand Leeds their first home defeat of the cheap nfl jerseys

The win put Wolves sixth on nine points from five games, behind Leicester City and Arsenal on goal difference. Newly-promoted Leeds are 10th with seven points.

“In the first half we didn’t find a way to receive their press but in the second half we played very well and found the space,” goal-scorer Jimenez said.

“It’s difficult to score against this kind of team, they press very well. Sometimes you need fortune to score, it’s all about persistence,” he added.

San Jose Earthquakes extend LA Galaxy’s losing skid to six

Nick Lima scored twice, while Andres Rios and Tommy Thompson also had goals, as the San Jose Earthquakes were able to get back on track with a 4-0 road victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy in Jonathan Klinsmann’s goalkeeping debut for LA on Wednesday.

The Earthquakes have won four of their last five games after their three-game winning streak ended in a 3-0 loss to the Portland Timbers on Sunday. San Jose moved back above the playoff line with the victory.

The futility continued for the Galaxy with their sixth consecutive loss, as their winless streak was extended to seven games. Los Angeles has not won a game since Sept. 6 when it got the best of cross-town rival Los Angeles FC.

After giving up six goals in a defeat to the Timbers on Oct. 7, the Galaxy made a move from goalkeeper David Bingham to Klinsmann. The son of former Germany star and United States Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann stayed busy making seven saves in his MLS nfl nike jerseys china8

Klinsmann was acquired by the Galaxy from the FC St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League on Aug. 20.

The Earthquakes got past Klinsmann for the first time just before halftime when Lima scored from near the penalty spot on a touch pass from Rios.

Rios delivered a goal of his own in the 52nd minute when he converted a pass from Carlos Fierro. It was his fifth of the season.

Thompson put the game away for the Earthquakes in the 76th minute. His first shot, while unmarked from just inside the penalty area was saved by Klinsmann, but Thompson was able to jump on the rebound and score on a sharp angle. It was his first of the year.

Lima scored his second of the game, and second of the season, in the third minute of second-half stoppage time.

San Jose goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski made three saves in his second shutout of the nike nfl jerseys wholesale

The Earthquakes earned their second victory over the Galaxy in 11 days after they were on top of a 2-1 decision at home on Oct. 3. The teams played to a 0-0 tie on Sept. 13, with the Galaxy earning a 3-2 victory at home over San Jose on Aug. 29.

Struggling D.C. United manages tie against Philadelphia Union

Mark McKenzie and Anthony Fontana each scored one goal and the visiting Philadelphia Union registered a 2-2 draw against D.C. United on Wednesday.

The Union are unbeaten in their last three games.

D.C. United dominated possession in the first 15 minutes and had two good scoring chances in the 15th minute. After an errant throw-in at midfield by Philadelphia’s Kai Wagner, D.C. United took advantage and created shots by Asad and Edison Flores in the box.

Both shots were blocked by Union defenders, however.7

Pines redirected a cross just wide of the goal in the 70th minute. One minute later, Pines then scored on a header to tie the game at 1. It was Pines’ first career goal in Major League Soccer.

Asad converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute following a hand ball in the box by Alejandro Bedoya and D.C. United went ahead 2-1.

McKenzie blasted a shot from about 30 yards out past Seitz to equalize at 2 in the 87th minute. This was McKenzie’s first career goal as well.
