Warriors’ Draymond Green returns from 3-game absence

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green returned for Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls after missing the past three games because of a right heel injury.

Green scored seven points and added eight assists and five rebounds in 24 minutes in the 104-90 win over the Bulls.

“Having Draymond back was a big deal. He settled us down,” coach Steve Kerr said. “Having nine instead of eight, it matters. You just have more to work with and more options.”

After Monday morning’s shootaround, Green said he was hopeful he would be able to play.nfl nike jerseys cheap china

“It’s getting better,” he said. “Not great, but it’s getting better.”6

Green said he had some inflammation in the heel but believed the injury was due in part to “wear and tear problems.”

Green, who missed a week earlier this season because of a torn ligament in his finger, said these injuries were not out of the ordinary after all the minutes he has played year after year.cheap nike nfl jerseys paypal

“It’s pretty standard,” Green said. “Always something going on. I think as you get older, you start to pay more attention to those bumps and bruises because you understand the body more. … It’s not that I couldn’t have played, but is it the smart thing to do?”

He added: “I leave every game with bumps and bruises no matter what, but I think in certain situations with certain things, you realize what’s next. Like, if I don’t take care of this, I’m going to go out there, I’m going to overcompensate, and then the left knee’s going to start hurting. You just kind of start to figure all that out as you get older and just becoming more in tune with yourself.”

Frustrated Warriors coach Steve Kerr cuts hand after breaking clipboard

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr cut his right hand during Wednesday night’s 104-90 win over the Chicago Bulls after breaking a clipboard in frustration.

“It’s a mere flesh wound,” Kerr said. “I broke a clipboard. It’s one of two. I’m allotted two [broken clipboards] a year. This was number one. It always cuts [my hand] in the same place. This was a little deeper one. I was a little more upset.”

This is not the first time Kerr has broken a clipboard, but this particular incident came early in the fourth quarter as the Warriors were trying to close out the game.

“We just had a stretch there where we were very careless,” Kerr said. “Particularly in transition defense. And we let them sneak behind us. Those are cardinal sins. We’re 3-15 coming into the game, so every play matters, every possession matters, and you got to fight for everything, and I thought our guys did a great job of that down the stretch and deserved to feel good about the game and I’m really happy for them.”cheap nike nfl jerseys paypal

Kerr’s intensity was appreciated by his players in the huddle.5

“I love it,” Warriors rookie Eric Paschall said. “A coach like that cares. He wants to win.

“And Coach Kerr as a player, he’s been through it all. He’s a winner himself, so he wants to win. He wants to change everything, so I feel like we responded correctly tonight and played well together. … Having a coach that cares so much about his team and how we’re playing, that means a lot for players just because he cares.”

Kerr’s clipboard break was a hot topic of conversation in the Warriors locker room.nfl nike jerseys cheap china

“He f—ed his hand up pretty bad,” forward Draymond Green said. “There was blood all over his pants. And then he got a new clipboard. There was blood all over that clipboard too. He got a rise out of the team, though. We turned the game back around.”

Warriors big man Omari Spellman said he didn’t even see Kerr snap the clipboard, but he saw the aftermath.

“I saw him leaking [blood],” Spellman said. “I was like, ‘Yo, why is he bleeding?’ He was like animated, but he just kept going like blood on the clipboard. I’m like, ‘We’re in the heat of the moment, I ain’t going to talk about it.’ But I was completely confused.”

Carson Wentz: Eagles fans have right to be frustrated

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is a primary focus of fan frustration for the first time in his career, following a four-turnover performance in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The heat is turned up to high in Philadelphia, and Wentz gets it.china nike nfl jerseys cheap

There were plenty of issues outside of quarterback play in Sunday’s 17-9 loss to Seattle. Wentz was without his top two linemen, Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks; receivers Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor; and running back Jordan Howard.8

With the offensive line struggling and his receiving corps not always in proper position, Wentz was in a precarious spot. But he misfired on several standard throws and fumbled three times — losing two of them — in what was arguably the worst outing of his professional career.

The offense has scored a total of 19 points in consecutive losses to the Seahawks and Patriots.cheap nfl nike jerseys from china

Wentz remains unshaken, he said, as the Eagles (5-6) set their sights on the Miami Dolphins.

“I have so much confidence in my ability to turn this around and do my best and get these things fixed,” Wentz said, “that I don’t get too high or too low going through these things.”

Giants’ Jabrill Peppers has transverse process fracture; Golden Tate concussed

New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers is likely to miss time after the team announced he suffered a transverse process fracture in his back on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

Wide receiver Golden Tate also was injured in the game, suffering a concussion because of the way he landed on his 23-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter of the 19-14 loss at Chicago.

There was no timetable set on Peppers’ return, although the Giants believe it should be this season. It will depend on his pain tolerance.

“My understanding, his too, in terms of the evaluation of it, as I knew [Sunday] he had a sore back. I guess he can return; it’s kind of relative to pain tolerance,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “So, I would say no [to season-ending].”

Peppers was in severe pain after the game Sunday. He said the injury occurred when he was hit on a kickoff return with no time remaining in the first half.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

The starting safety and returner did not return to the field in the second half.6

“I’m tough. I’m hoping it’s something I can tough through,” Peppers said after barely being able to sit and dress himself in the locker room.

Peppers, 24, acquired in the offseason in the trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns, leads the Giants with 78 tackles this season and also has an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

Tate, 31, has 36 receptions for 450 yards and four touchdowns in his first season with the Giants after signing with the team in free agency. He already missed four games this season serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.cheap nfl jerseys china nike

With Tate now in doubt for Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, the Giants face the prospects of another week without their full arsenal. They have not played a game this season with Tate, wide receiver Sterling Shepard, running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Evan Engram working alongside rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

Engram (foot) missed Sunday’s seventh straight loss, which dropped the Giants’ record to 2-9.

Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic score as Chelsea hold off Watford

Striker Tammy Abraham scored one goal and Christian Pulisic added another as Chelsea beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on Saturday, with Ben Foster putting on a superb display between the posts for the home side despite the defeat.

Abraham latched on to a brilliant defence-splitting pass by Jorginho and lifted the ball past Foster in the fifth minute to join Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero as top scorers with nine goals each so far this season.new nike nfl jerseys cheap

Foster bounced back from the concession of that early goal to pull off a string of superb first-half saves from Abraham, Pulisic and Mason Mount to keep his side in the game.6

He made another great stop from Mount early in the second half, but there was little he could do in the 55th minute when Abraham pulled the ball back across the box for Pulisic to slam home from close range to double Chelsea’s advantage.

“I want to make an impact for the team and I am enjoying it a lot. I want to prove every week that I deserve to be in the starting line-up,” Pulisic said after the game.cheap nfl nike jerseys china

Watford nearly snatched an unlikely point as Gerard Deulofeu scored a late penalty and Foster almost headed home a late free kick as the Hornets threw everybody forward, but his opposite number Kepa clawed the ball away as the final whistle went.

“That’s the closest I have ever come to scoring. I can’t believe he saved it but that’s why they spend so much money on a goalkeeper like Kepa,” the 36-year-old Foster told Sky Sports, adding that he thought his side had deserved a draw.

Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league win lifts them to third place in the table on 23 points, eight behind leaders Liverpool and two behind second-placed Manchester City, while winless Watford remain bottom on five points after 11 games.

Liverpool’s confidence and persistence yields another dramatic win but title race has far to go

When Trent Alexander-Arnold readied to take a corner as the clock ticked down at Villa Park, with seconds left in his 100th appearance for Liverpool, there was apprehension among the home supporters and expectation in the away end.

It was the 95th minute, seven after Andy Robertson cancelled out Trezeguet’s first-half opener for Aston Villa and there were just 60 seconds remaining for the league leaders to rescue three points. Liverpool were several levels below their best, without rhythm or surety in their play, all afternoon and the fixture was ready to be filed under “just one of those days.”cheap nike nfl jersey

“We made it difficult for ourselves,” Jurgen Klopp admitted post-match. “We started playing football good but not exactly like we should have done. Aston Villa were ready today for a proper fight, a proper battle, defend with all they have, try to find spaces for counter-attacks and be there and have good set pieces.4

“We played good football, but didn’t finish the situations and then we conceded a goal, then it is not so easy to change these wrong decisions, this wrong path, immediately. We needed a bit of time.”

Liverpool’s poor decision-making aligned with marginal calls — Villa’s goal was ruled just onside by VAR, but Roberto Firmino’s armpit (yes, you read that correctly) was deemed to be offside when he had the ball in the back of the net — compounded the sense that it may not quite be their afternoon. But in those dying moments, the emotions of both fan bases were understandable. Dean Smith’s men have ceded 11 points in games in which they have gone ahead this season, more than any other Premier League side. Liverpool, by contrast, are the champions of division in winning points from losing positions.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

It turns out that Villa supporters were justified for feeling the way they did: Sadio Mane’s deft header from Alexander-Arnold’s corner dissected Conor Hourihane and Jonathan Kodjia before nestling into the far corner to make it 2-1 to the league leaders.

Prior to that moment, Liverpool did not need to dig that deep or look too far to believe they could conjure another rescue act. They were decisive at the death during a ridiculous 5-5 draw with Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, in which they triumphed on penalties. Their winner against Leicester City at Anfield last month arrived after 95 minutes. Their equaliser against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the next fixture materialised in the 85th minute. The “Fergie Time” concept, coined when Sir Alex Ferguson’s sides had a habit of producing late goals, has been replaced by “Klopp o’clock.”

Since the start of last season, no other Premier League team has scored more goals in the division during the last 10 minutes than Liverpool’s 23. In September 2017, after his side had conceded 13 goals from seven matches, Klopp admitted that lapses in defence had become “a self-fulfilling prophecy” for them as players got sucked into the narrative around them. That has since been positively replaced by Liverpool’s powers of recovery: since the German labelled his squad “f—ing mentality monsters” in April after Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson scored late goals in a 3-1 victory at Southampton, they have continually found ways to win even with time running out.

What Juan Soto, Nationals rocking Gerrit Cole means for this World Series

With Max Scherzer facing Gerrit Cole in Game 1 of the World Series, we had grand visions of an epic pitchers’ duel between the three-time Cy Young winner and the hottest pitcher on the planet.

We didn’t get that. We got something better: a reminder that as much as we try to script what will happen in a baseball game, you can never predict what will happen in a baseball game.china nike nfl jerseys cheap

The Washington Nationals beat the Houston Astros 5-4 in an action-packed thriller Tuesday night, as the two starters combined to allow seven runs and 13 hits over their 12 innings. Juan Soto and George Springer performed heroic feats of strength, and the Nationals’ bullpen huffed and puffed to the end but managed to prevent Washington’s lead from being blown, immediately flipping the script in a World Series in which the Astros entered as the biggest betting favorites since 2007.6

This game will be remembered for 20-year-old super sophomore Soto twice beating Cole in the matchup of the phenom of phenoms against the ace of aces. Soto crushed a 417-foot home run to the opposite field in the fourth inning, then lined a two-run double with two outs — opposite field again — off the wall below the Crawford Boxes in the fifth inning. The first blow tied the score at 2, and the second capped a three-run rally to give the Nationals a 5-2 lead.

The unbeatable Cole, riding a streak of 19 consecutive winning decisions stretching back to May — the Astros hadn’t lost a game started by Cole since July 12 — proved beatable after all. Soto, who hit .188 with seven strikeouts in the Nationals’ sweep in the National League Championship Series, proved why he is too good to go into any extended slump.cheap nfl nike jerseys from china

Before the game, Astros manager AJ Hinch discussed facing the Nationals’ lineup with a 12-man pitching staff of all right-handed pitchers. “Soto is going to be a big part of this series,” Hinch said. That’s not particularly prescient — Soto, after all, is Washington’s cleanup hitter — but there is little doubt that the Nationals’ lineup needs Soto to produce. The Nats beat the St. Louis Cardinals without him doing much, but they’re unlikely to beat the Astros if he hits .188 again.

Juan Soto getting to Gerrit Cole turned the World Series upside down

This being Texas, it was only fitting that Game 1 of the World Series boiled down to a duel. On the pitcher’s mound stood Gerrit Cole, who isn’t a Texan but sure could pass for one: tall, strong, bearded, long hair, bit of a snarl, fastball that touches 100. His weapon was a baseball. Standing 60 feet, 6 inches away was Juan Soto, the perfect foil, a baby-faced 20-year-old from out east, a charismatic, charming, hip-swiveling boo magnet. His weapon was a bat.

Three times they faced off Tuesday night, and all three distilled baseball in 2019 to its most delectable essence. Power vs. power, brains vs. brains, excellence vs. excellence. Major League Baseball exists for these moments because these moments are of what great World Series are made.cheap nfl jerseys china nike

And to see the final score — Washington Nationals 5, Houston Astros 4 — was to see a facsimile of Cole vs. Soto: incredibly close, eminently compelling, loads of fun and stoking a burning desire for more, more, more. The Nationals stole home-field advantage from the Astros by doing to Cole what no team had done in five months: hand him a loss. Amid that, Soto did to Cole what it no longer seemed any man could: make him look mortal too.

Inside the Nationals’ clubhouse, players, coaches, executives — everyone really — was one-upping one another to lavish praise on Soto. How young he is, how poised he is, how everything he is. Nobody described Soto quite like Johnny DiPuglia, the Nationals vice president of international operations.5

“You don’t see dogs playing checkers,” DiPuglia said, and he was right not just that paws aren’t nearly dexterous enough to move checkers pieces but that Soto is that rare sort of beast, someone unique. And not unique like, hey, let’s call him unique because he is good at something or kind of interesting. No: unique, as in a literal one of a kind.china nike nfl jerseys cheap

Soto is bark, bite and double-jumps all in one. He is the only player ever with two seasons of at least 400 at-bats and an on-base percentage of .400 and slugging percentage of .500 before he turned 21. The five others who did it once: Ted Williams, Mel Ott, Jimmie Foxx, Al Kaline, Alex Rodriguez. Hall of Famer, Hall of Famer, Hall of Famer, Hall of Famer, Hall of Fame production.

The first-inning showdown between Cole and Soto, then, was quite the production. Since May 22, Cole had pitched 25 times. In those starts, hitters batted .166, posted a .220 OBP and slugged .300. In other words, over 169⅓ innings, Cole made the average hitter he faced perform like Blake Swihart, who hit .163/.222/.304 this season. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of Blake Swiharts.

Juan Soto is no Blake Swihart, though Cole treated him as such in the initial at-bat. First pitch: 97.4 mph, down the middle, up in the zone. Soto swung through it. Next pitch: 98.1 mph, another four-seam fastball, up and on the inside corner. Soto took it. Last pitch: 99.1 mph, paint up and away, at which Soto waved. Three high fastballs, three strikes, see ya next time.

Soto vowed next time would be different. He loves the game and the gamesmanship and everything that goes into the pitcher against the hitter. He harkened back to spring training, where the Nationals and Astros share a complex in West Palm Beach, Florida. He steeled himself for Round 2.

Raptors’ Masai Ujiri won’t be charged for shoving deputy

California prosecutors announced Tuesday that they won’t charge Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri for shoving a sheriff’s deputy after the deciding game of the NBA Finals in Oakland in June.

The Alameda County district attorney’s office announced the decision Tuesday afternoon, when the Raptors were in Toronto receiving their championship rings for defeating the Golden State Warriors.

The DA’s office said it met with Ujiri and his attorneys on Monday and decided the matter was better handled “outside of the courtroom.”nike nfl jerseys for cheap

“I am extremely pleased with the decision,” Ujiri said in a statement issued through the team from Toronto, where the Raptors opened their regular season against the New Orleans Pelicans.

“While these past months have been difficult waiting for a determination on this matter, I understand the nature of the process and am appreciative of the efforts of all involved,” Ujiri said. “I am happy that this is now behind me and I look forward to the task of bringing another Championship to the City of Toronto.”6

The Raptors had just won their first title after taking Game 6 of the NBA Finals at Oracle Arena on June 13 when Ujiri went onto the court to join his celebrating team.

A sheriff’s deputy stopped him because Ujiri didn’t provide the proper on-court credential, leading to a shoving match that was partially captured on video.cheap nike nfl jerseys china

Several bystanders intervened, and Ujiri got onto the court without displaying any credentials.

An attorney for the deputy contended that the deputy suffered a concussion. The sheriff’s office said only that he was placed on medical leave. The office filed a report of misdemeanor battery with the district attorney’s office.

An effort Tuesday to contact a spokesman for the sheriff’s office was unsuccessful. Messages to the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Alameda County seeking comment from the deputy weren’t immediately returned.

Ujiri attorney Robert Beles said his client is gratified and said the DA’s office conducted a thorough investigation.

“It was definitely the right conclusion,” he said, calling Ujiri “a decent human being and a good man.”

How investing $150K in Spencer Dinwiddie would actually work

At the end of the 2018 NBA offseason, Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie was hanging out in Los Angeles with Jeremy Adams, a close friend from their days at the University of Colorado. The two played basketball at Boulder, and they share an enthusiasm for the world of blockchain technology and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Dinwiddie had thoroughly enjoyed the process of developing his own shoe the previous year outside the sneaker industrial complex. He and Adams wondered: What other opportunities existed out there?

“With the shoe, we started exploring ways to try to take control of the brand,” Dinwiddie said.buy nike nfl jerseys cheap

For years, Dinwiddie threw himself into the world of markets — both traditional sectors like financial services and newfangled corners of the ecosystem like cryptocurrency. These days, it’s normal to walk into an NBA practice facility and find a hard copy of a pitch deck lying around the locker room. But Dinwiddie isn’t just into investing; he is a guy with a more holistic interest in how money works. How is value transferred in an economy? How do you make markets more inclusive? What’s a cool way to bring liquidity to an illiquid, unrealized sector?4

On that last question, Dinwiddie realized the next step in his entrepreneurial journey was to create a financial instrument that would allow him and other athletes to fully maximize their upside. Why not just be the investment vehicle, allowing people who believe in that athlete to cash in when he makes good on his potential?

The idea of athletes or celebrities securitizing their talents has precedent. In 1997, musician David Bowie worked with an investment bank to sell “Bowie Bonds.” Investors were paid a fixed annual return of 7.9% over 10 years for bonds that were backed by Bowie’s intellectual property — in other words, his recordings and songs — and his rights to royalties. Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas took a long look at securitizing his contract in 1998, but the plan got hung up over skittishness about clauses in his deal that would nullify the contract for scenarios like a non-sports-related injury or player strike.cheap nike nfl jerseys china

Dinwiddie plans to offer what he has named his Professional Athlete Investment Token (PAInT) as soon as this week. The offering has a minimum investment of $150,000, and it would be available only to accredited investors on a new platform that he hopes will eventually host dozens of athletes who follow his lead.

The NBA has taken issue with Dinwiddie’s efforts, and the two sides have been debating whether issuing a PAInT would violate the league’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Dinwiddie is hopeful that the measures he has taken over the past few weeks will persuade the league of its permissibility under the CBA.
