Tarik Cohen of Chicago Bears feared to have suffered torn ACL

The Chicago Bears fear running back Tarik Cohen suffered a torn right ACL in Sunday’s 30-26 win over the Atlanta Falcons, coach Matt Nagy said after the game.

“Unfortunately, it looks like Tarik Cohen, after we get confirmation, looks like he did end up tearing his ACL,” Nagy said on a video call. “So, that will be a big blow to us there with that, which is unfortunate.”cheap nike nfl jersey

Cohen suffered the injury on a punt return when Atlanta’s Brian Hill got pushed into the back of his right leg, caused his knee to bend awkwardly. Cohen went to the ground and immediately clutched his right knee. The 5-foot-6 all-purpose threat was unable to put any pressure on his right leg when trainers help him off the field.

Cohen had two carries for 21 yards and three receptions for 20 yards before the injury.7

“I love the guy, he’s an important person on this team,” Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks said. “Someone I have a lot of respect for, somebody that is dedicated to this team and that wants to be the best at what he does. He’s all you can ask for in a teammate. He’s the energy when we need it, he’s the focus when you want it, he’s just our guy.cheap nfl nike jersey

The Bears signed Cohen to a three-year extension earlier this month. Cohen’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal is worth $17.25 million in new money ($5.75 million per year) with the opportunity to be worth $18.25 million at $6.093 million per year. Cohen’s extension includes $9.533 million fully guaranteed and a $12.033 million max guarantee.

Cohen, 25, is an all-purpose threat on offense who earned a trip to the 2018 Pro Bowl as a return man on special teams. A fourth-round pick out of North Carolina A&T, he rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns and caught 203 passes for 1,534 yards and nine scores over his first three seasons in Chicago (2017 to ’19).

Cohen became the shortest player (5-foot-6) since 1934 to throw an NFL touchdown pass when he fired a 21-yard scoring strike as a rookie in 2017. He has two career touchdown passes overall. Also in 2017, Cohen became the first NFL rookie to score a rushing, a receiving, a passing and a punt-return touchdown since Hall of Famer Gale Sayers in 1965.

Leeds United seal win at Sheffield United with late Bamford goal

Patrick Bamford’s 88th-minute header gave Leeds United a 1-0 win at Sheffield United in their Yorkshire Premier League derby on Sunday.

Jack Harrison whipped in a superb cross from the left wing and Bamford rose well to score for the third straight game and leave Chris Wilder’s side without a point or a goal this season.

Leeds’ keeper Illan Meslier produced a superb save on 29 minutes from a close-range effort by John Lundstram after good work from Ben Osborn down the left.cheap nike nfl jerseys paypal

Marcelo Bielsa’s side threatened before the break, though, and Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale did well to keep out a lofted shot from Stuart Dallas.7

Meslier was alert again after the break when George Baldock turned sharply on the edge of the box to lose his marker and unleash a powerful drive but the 20-year-old keeper parried well.

Helder Costa then threatened with a stinging volley that was kept out by the diving Ramsdale.

Bamford’s fine header, however, ensured that Leeds move to six points from their first three games on their return to the top flight after a 16-year absence.

“It was a just result,” Bielsa said. “The first half was even. We could’ve scored but also conceded. The second half was a lot better for us. I think we created a small but just difference to create the victory.”nfl cheap jerseys nike

Sheffield United had lost to Aston Villa and Wolves before the Leeds game and manager Wilder said it had been a tough month.

“We’ll be glad to see the back of September. Fresh start in October at Arsenal away. I can’t fault a lot of things the players did in the game. I thought it was really tight, you have got to take the chances in the Premier League.

“We have to be more clinical, the best chances fell to us, we know how Leeds play, high energy and high tempo. We ultimately got punished by a fantastic ball and a great header.”

J.P. Crawford delivers all day as Mariners sweep DH with A’s

The Oakland Athletics sure would like to be swinging better in late September with the playoffs fast approaching.

Robbie Grossman provided a pair of home runs in his first career multi-homer game for the AL West champions yet again the A’s stumbled to a 12-3 loss in Game 2 as the Seattle Mariners swept their doubleheader Saturday.

“It’s not a great feeling. It’s a major league baseball game, you’re trying to win,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “The first one was tough, obviously. We felt like we had a pretty good chance to win that game and we didn’t.nike cheap nfl jerseys

“Had some opportunities. Second game we knew the pitching was going to be a little bit limited and there were some guys I didn’t want to use in this game so it ended up getting a little bit out of hand. You’ve just got to put the day away and come play tomorrow and know that’s the last game of the regular season and the postseason starts.”

J.P. Crawford delivered all day for Seattle. He hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning of a 5-1 extra-innings Game 1 win after his tying single in the sixth, then added an RBI double in an eight-run third during the nightcap.

Kyle Seager homered in both games, and Tim Lopes connected in the second.8

Seager hit a two-run drive in the eighth inning of the opener and a solo shot in the second game for the Mariners, who bounced back from a tough loss a night earlier with a pair of impressive wins.

Grossman connected on solo drives in the first and fifth innings against right-hander Justin Dunn (3-1).

Tommy La Stella tripled to begin the sixth in Game 1, but the A’s couldn’t capitalize against former Oakland right-hander Kendall Graveman (1-3).nfl nike jerseys for cheap

“That was great to be able to go out in a high-leverage situation, especially this whole month, and to be able to do that with some added Adrenalin,” Graveman said.

Khris Davis hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, but that was it for the A’s, whose hitting is hardly where they would hope.

“I have no doubt in this team. We’re the best team in the division, I would take us over anyone,” Grossman said. “It’s been a grind.”

The typically slugging A’s (35-23), who will host a best-of-three wild-card series starting Tuesday at the Coliseum, are still struggling as an offense but doing just enough. They won 3-1 in 10 innings Friday night on Mark Canha’s two-run homer.

Brewers keep playoff hopes alive with 3-0 win over Cardinals

Brandon Woodruff allowed two hits in eight innings and the Milwaukee Brewers boosted their playoff prospects in a big way by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 on Saturday night.

Ryan Braun and Daniel Vogelbach hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth, the third time the Brewers have hit consecutive homers this season.

Milwaukee can reach the postseason with a win Sunday in St. Louis, or losses by the Giants and Phillies.

“We have to win, and I think in the back of everybody’s mind we knew that, but I think the most important thing with these type games is you just go about your day the same as you’ve done for 12 other starts,” Woodruff said. “It’s tough to do, but it’s something that if you can keep that same routine and keep that going, it makes everything seem normal.”nfl cheap jerseys nike

Woodruff (3-5) retired 19 straight after pitching around leadoff hits in the first and second.

Milwaukee (29-30) is fourth in the NL Central, a game behind division rivals St. Louis (29-28) and Cincinnati (30-29). But the Brewers control their own playoff destiny thanks to San Francisco’s loss to San Diego later Saturday.

The Cardinals need a victory or a San Francisco loss Sunday to clinch a spot in the expanded eight-team field and avoid playing a makeup doubleheader Monday in Detroit that would decide their fate.7

“I love throwing in these type games,” Woodruff said. “That’s just what I like doing. … I just feel like I can slow the game down. We made some good defensive plays early on. They had some traffic early, but I was able to get through those innings and was able to start making pitches.”

Woodruff struck out 10 and walked one as he beat the Cardinals for the second time this season. He threw a season-high 108 pitches, 73 for strikes.nike cheap nfl jerseys

“The story of the game was Woody,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “It was just as good a start I think that we’ve seen since the (CC) Sabathia start at the end of ’08, in a big game, in a regular-season game, to deliver right there and not only deliver but help us for tomorrow, it can’t be understated, what he did.”

Josh Hader pitched a perfect ninth for his 13th save in 15 tries.

Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright (5-3) retired the first seven batters he faced before wriggling out of a two-on, one-out jam in the third.

Wainwright wasn’t so fortunate in the fourth as Braun drove his second pitch of the inning into the Cardinals’ bullpen. Three pitches later, Vogelbach smashed an 89 mph delivery 420 feet into the left-center bleachers to make it 2-0.

“Their guy just did a great job,” Wainwright said. “I mean, he was filthy tonight. I thought I saw him at 98 miles an hour a couple times with a great breaking ball and a couple of really good changeups he throws, so I needed to put zeros up there to match him them and they got a couple of runs across on me.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, Rudy Gobert headline All-Defensive first team

The top three vote-getters for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award — Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis and Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert — headline this year’s All-Defensive teams, which were announced by the league Tuesday.nfl nike jerseys cheap china

Antetokounmpo, who won this year’s Defensive Player of the Year award, received 97 of 100 possible first-team votes to finish with 195 points. He was followed by Davis (87 first-team votes and 187 points), Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons (88 first-team votes, 185 points), Gobert (85 first-team votes, 180 points) and Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart (57 first-place votes, 152 points).

It is the second straight season that both Antetokounmpo and Smart have been named to the first team, and Gobert — who won the previous two DPOY awards — has been named the first-team center four straight times. Davis now has two first- and two second-team selections. This is the first time Simmons has made either all-league defensive team.7

The second team is made up of LA Clippers teammates Kawhi Leonard and Patrick Beverley, Bucks teammates Brook Lopez and Eric Bledsoe, and Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo.

The Bucks became the first team to have three players named to the two All-Defensive teams since the 2012-13 Memphis Grizzlies (Tony Allen, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol).

Because of changes to the league’s calendar because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no end-of-season awards show, as there was in recent seasons. Instead, the league has reverted to its old practice of handing out hardware during the playoffs.

The only individual award left is for the Most Valuable Player, which Antetokounmpo, who missed Game 5 of Milwaukee’s Eastern Conference semifinal series against Miami on Tuesday because of a sprained right ankle, is expected to win for the second season in a row.nike jerseys nfl cheap

The other honors still to be announced are the two All-Rookie teams and the three All-NBA teams.

New Orleans Saints star WR Michael Thomas to be examined by Packers doctor Robert Anderson

The New Orleans Saints sent Michael Thomas’ ankle MRI to Green Bay, Wisconsin, to renowned surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson, who determined that the star wide receiver has a mild high ankle sprain, sources tell ESPN.cheap nfl nike jerseys china

The Saints play their Week 3 game at home against the Packers, but they will have Thomas travel to Green Bay this week to meet in person with Anderson, who also is the Packers’ team doctor.

This sets up a potentially ironic scenario in which the Packers’ doctor might be the one who signs off on Thomas returning to play against his team.7

While any high ankle sprain might have sidelined some players for weeks, that might not be the case with Thomas, who already has been ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Raiders but who surprised the Saints last week with how well he was faring despite his injury.cheap nfl jerseys china nike

There is hope and even some optimism that Thomas could be back as soon as Week 3 against the Packers — especially if Anderson is comfortable with what he sees.

Thomas, who set an NFL record with 149 catches last season, limped off the field with the ankle injury just before the two-minute warning of New Orleans’ season-opening victory over the Buccaneers.

Colorado Rapids defeat 10-man LA Galaxy

Cole Bassett and Jonathan Lewis scored goals for the Colorado Rapids in their 2-0 victory over the LA Galaxy Saturday night in Carson, Calif.nfl cheap jerseys nike

Lewis’ fourth goal of the season sealed the win for the Rapids, who have lost just once in the past six games. Colorado vaulted into sixth place and a postseason position in the MLS Western Conference.

The Galaxy played with 10 men from the 75th minute on after Julian Araujo was shown a red card. Araujo drew a yellow card for a foul in the 72nd minute, then was given red for his reaction to the call.

Bassett’s 40th-minute goal gave Colorado a 1-0 lead. Bassett scored off a long cross from fullback Sam Vines, who had no one marking him on the left wing as he dribbled and looked for someone in the box.7

The ball found Bassett’s feet, and his shot was too forceful for David Bingham to stop for the Galaxy.cheap nike nfl jerseys paypal

Joe Corona got an open look from outside the top of the box in the 42nd minute for the Galaxy, but William Yarbrough stopped it for the Rapids. Yarbrough finished with four saves.

The Galaxy chose not to start a pair of stars, forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and midfielder Jonathan dos Santos, but both came on as substitutes in the 54th minute. Just before that, Yarbrough stopped Ethan Zubak’s redirected cross from in front of the net to keep the Galaxy scoreless.

Bingham came up big for the Galaxy in the 65th minute. After a shot from Lewis hit the goal bar, the rebound remained with the Rapids. Andre Shinyashiki had a chance from close range, only to have Bingham turn him away.

San Francisco 49ers monitoring George Kittle’s knee sprain

The already banged-up San Francisco 49ers pass-catching corps added even more uncertainty Sunday when tight end George Kittle suffered a sprained left knee in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

That injury could put Kittle’s status for Week 2 against the New York Jets up in the air depending on how this week plays out, coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday.

“We’ll see how he comes in on Wednesday,” Shanahan said. “He was a little sore today but we’ll wait to see how he is on Wednesday to see if he’s able to practice or be able to go this week. We know there will be some question.”

Kittle came up hobbling near the end of the first half after taking a hit from Cardinals safety Budda Baker. Kittle was able to walk to the sideline, where he was evaluated by medical staff before heading to the locker room early.

But Kittle returned after halftime and seemed to make it through the game OK, though he had no catches and was not targeted in the final two quarters after posting four catches for 44 yards on five targets in the first half.nfl nike jerseys cheap china

Last season, Kittle suffered what Shanahan called a “popped capsule” in his left knee in a Week 9 win at Arizona in which he also returned and finished the game. He missed the ensuing two games, though it’s worth noting he also was dealing with an ankle injury that was considered the more troubling of the two ailments at the time.8

Keeping Kittle, 26, in the lineup could be even more important for the Niners this week than it normally would be. That’s because they continue to deal with an onslaught of injury issues at wide receiver.

San Francisco put receiver Deebo Samuel (Jones fracture in his left foot) on injured reserve Saturday. Shanahan acknowledged Monday that Samuel, who the team had hoped would be ready for Week 1, suffered a setback in a recent workout.

“We didn’t think it was a setback because he was just real sore after running one day,” Shanahan said. “But the soreness never got better. It just got worse and worse after one specific day, and usually after one day when it was sore, we thought it was just because he worked it hard, but when that got worse each day and not better, it ended up being a little bit of a setback, so that’s why we ended up putting him on IR.cheap nike nfl jerseys paypal

Shanahan said the hope remains that Samuel will be able to return for the Oct. 4 game against the Philadelphia Eagles and that the setback wasn’t serious enough to extend that timetable right now.

In addition, Richie James Jr. suffered a hamstring injury Sunday. Like Kittle, James will have to be monitored as the week goes on.

After James’ departure Sunday, the Niners were down to just three healthy wideouts — Dante Pettis, Kendrick Bourne and Trent Taylor — on the 53-man roster. That group struggled to produce, collecting a combined four catches for 41 yards on 11 targets.

Fresh off win, Ben Roethlisberger ‘just so excited’ to be leading Pittsburgh Steelers yet again

If Ben Roethlisberger had any jitters Monday night, the veteran quarterback shook them off in time for a vintage performance in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 26-16 victory against the New York Giants.

Playing for the first time in a year since a season-ending elbow injury sustained in Week 2 of 2019, Roethlisberger completed 21 of 32 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns — and an 11-yard keeper for a first down.

“There obviously were a little bit of jitters, I was excited and nervous to be out there,” Roethlisberger said after the game in East Rutherford, New Jersey. “I just wanted to not let my guys down, that was the biggest thing.”

Roethlisberger looked most like his old self in an abbreviated two-minute drill just before halftime, leading the Steelers on an eight-play, 78-yard drive capped with a touchdown throw to James Washington on which the third-year wide receiver muscled his way into the end zone for the score.nike nfl cheap jerseys

“Us being out there right before half, having two minutes to go down, put points on the board, it was like, ‘OK, that is the Ben we know,'” receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster said. “Being able to go down and have those points on the board [on that] drive — that is what we do.”7

Just before that drive, Roethlisberger stood on the sideline between drives with a jacket transformed into a wrap for his surgically repaired elbow to keep him loose and warm.

Roethlisberger said afterward he might feel some pain Tuesday following the game, but that said there was nothing seriously wrong with his knee, which he briefly grabbed after his 11-yard run in the second quarter, or his elbow.nfl nike jerseys cheap china

“I probably just grabbed my knee because I was moving so fast, but I feel great right now,” Roethlisberger said. “Obviously, adrenaline still pumping and we won the game. I’m going to be sore tomorrow and might have some bumps and bruises, but in terms of elbow and everything else I feel really good right now.”

With his third scoring pass of the night — and second to Smith-Schuster — Roethlisberger notched his 366th career touchdown, setting a franchise record and tying Eli Manning for eighth most in NFL history.

“I am just so excited, I am just thankful,” Roethlisberger told ESPN’s Maria Taylor in his postgame interview. “I told the guys in the locker room before the game that I’m back because of them. I don’t need to accomplish anything personally anymore. It’s about being with a defense that I think is as good as any I have ever played with, skill guys that are young and fun to play with and then, of course my line, who I love to death and they love me.

Lopez, Marlins win finale in 7-game set against Phils, 6-2

Pablo Lopez allowed one run in seven innings with the help of flashy defense by right fielder Matt Joyce, and the upstart Marlins won the finale of their marathon seven-game series against Philadelphia on Monday, 6-2.nfl nike jersey cheap

The series, the majors’ longest in the regular season in 53 years, included three makeup games and two doubleheaders. The Marlins’ only other Game 7s were in the 1997 and 2003 postseasons, and they won the World Series both years.

“For Game 7 you have in your mind a lot more fans and more energy, but these were huge games for us,” Joyce said. “We played really well, and we’re excited to be in the position we’re in.”

Marlins Park was mostly empty because of the coronavirus, but the home team still created some buzz by winning five of seven from Philadelphia, including the final three in the series.8

The Marlins (24-21) moved into second place in the NL East, 1 1/2 games ahead of the Phils, and have a shot at their first playoff berth in 17 years after overcoming an early season COVID-19 outbreak that sidelined more than half the team.

“We’re just kind of doing what we believed we could do,” manager Don Mattingly said. “Before the season, nationally nobody was thinking about the Marlins at all, but we felt pretty good about ourselves.”china nike nfl jerseys cheap

Lopez (4-4) bounced back from his worst outing of the year by allowing only three hits and retiring his final 13 batters. He was helped by not one but two over-the-shoulder basket catches on the warning track by a retreating Joyce, who robbed Scott Kingery and Jean Segura.

“Way more fun if you catch those, right?” Joyce said. “Definitely that football feel. The Phillies’ bullpen was giving me a hard time — I said it was a touchdown, and they said I didn’t keep my feet in. Got to go to the replay.”

The only run Lopez allowed came on Andrew McCutchen’s seventh homer to start the game. Philadelphia totaled four hits without J.T. Realmuto and Rhys Hoskins, both nursing injuries.

“It’s always frustrating when you’re not scoring runs,” manager Joe Girardi said. “We hit the ball hard; just didn’t have any runs to show for it.”

Jesus Aguilar put the Marlins ahead with a two-run double in the third. Miguel Rojas hit his third home run and Starling Marte added his fifth, both off David Phelps.

Kingery, reinstated from the injured list before the game, hit his second homer. Phils catcher Rafael Marchan made his major league debut and went 1 for 3.
